I got the pants a couple weeks ago, I didn't really have a good chance to put them through their paces; however, when I was trekking back to the car, it was snowing hard and I had to put them on when it was transitioning to rain. It kept me and the pants underneath dry. The zippers were stiff, but that was expected.
It is super thin, noting though it is using ripstrop construction. The pants are definitely for like the casual/avid backpacker sticking to the trail, I would be hesitate to have them brush up against objects. It serves it's purpose as a recreational rain pant, although an expensive one.
Lastly, I work for Columbia Sportswear, but I want to give people my honest opinion.
I would recommend this product.

I've used these pants hiking in the rain, post-holing in ice, and backcountry skiing. The zippers create great ventilation, the material is totally waterproof, and the fit is perfect.
My only critiques are that the built-in belt is too short, so being as skinny guy I bottom out to the belt loop, and there are no pockets. Not even a small zipper pouch for your keys.
Still a great product to have!
I would recommend this product.

These pants will meet my needs for backpacking, but they fall short for bicycle commuting.
Good:
• Lightweight, breathable, stretchable
• Integrated belt for easy on/off and waist adjustment
• 3/4 length side zip accommodates boots

• Cannot synch cuffs to prevent them from being caught in bike gears. A simple velcro closure would suffice.

The Stretch Cohesion Pant is a light weight versatile rain shell with an easy on/off design for flexibility as conditions change. The men's medium size weighs a mere 8 ounces. The sides do not fully unzip, but extend from the leg openings almost all the way to the elastic waist. This feature provides a large step-in entry, while eliminating the zipper alignment issues I find awkward with full-zip pants. Fit is roomy enough to slip easily over a light weight fleece pant or thin "puffy" pant layer. The ultralight water proof breathable shell fabric is suitable for trail running and backpacking, but may not be well suited to bushwhacking, rugged rock terrain, or mountaineering travel.
I would recommend this product.

these pants fit so great. the only thing i didnt like about them is that they zip 3/4 of the way, why not go all the way and maybe even alil cargo pocket might be nice as well...i dont have the epic pants but these should be called epic because they are

I ordered this pant to have a superlight backcountry skiing option during Spring. The fit was perfect, and the pants are better than I could have imagined. They never get wet, they have zipper venting in the perfect location, and they weigh nothing. Stoked!!!

Cool Pants - Some Hesitation

These pants are pretty cool but I returned them for a few reasons.
1The MH sizing chart is way off. I'm 6ft with a 34 inch waist. The chart said medium (even considering that these go over another pair of pants) - but that was WAY off. I bought the large despite the size chart rec and they were just about perfect (perfect waist but a little long). I have a 31 inch inseam and they were prob less than an inch too long - not a problem since the legs are tapered and the extra material sits on my shoes - but they have a zipper on the bottom and probable can't be tailored.
The material seemed cool and waterproof but still relatively light. They have nice elasticity and are good for active use. My main problem with these pants is that they seem to be slightly cooler but still typical rain pants that are priced very close to Gore-Tex Paclite without the guaranteed performance of Gore.

Flimsy Rain Pants Only

I am 5'10", ~200# male who purchased these pants for mountaineering in the Peruvian Andes. I thought they would be similar to the previous models that were made with Goretex Paclite and were fairly durable and could take a crampon kick every once in a while (with reinforced lowers, of course). Instead, I was unpleasantly surprised to find these pants to be incredibly thin and felt like I was wearing a bag. I get the need for lightweight, but when it comes to pants that are supposed to supplement your exposure kit, this was a bit much - it felt as though a couple wrong snags or a couple hard sits and these things would be demolished.
PROS: very lightweight, leg zips are good for vents, very waterproof
CONS: no pockets at all!, too flimsy and cheap feeling, no reinforcement along stress edges or stress points

Wore these on a 3 day snow backpack/snowshoe trip on Mt St Helens. They kept me dry the whole time. The fit was great and didn't restrict my movement at all. They fit a little bigger than described but I don't mind as it allows for layer room. A great pair of pants in extreme conditions.
